Bancroft School Student-Athlete William (Will) Lewis IV ’26 Signs with Regis College to Play NCAA Division III Basketball
WORCESTER, MA — Bancroft School senior William Lewis IV officially signed his letter of intent this week to continue his academic and athletic career at Regis College. Lewis will join the Pride’s NCAA Division III men’s basketball program following a historic senior season at Bancroft.
The signing marks the culmination of Lewis’s Bancroft School career, defined by both individual milestones and team success. This year, Lewis surpassed the 1,000-point career scoring mark and helped to lead the Bancroft Bulldogs to a NEPSAC Class C Championship. His performance on the court earned him a selection to the All-NEPSAC boys basketball team, a goal he has worked toward since his freshman year.
“To reach this milestone demands a consistent level of commitment, the willingness to push yourself against the best competition and a relentless drive toward a goal,” said Garth Adams, Bancroft School Athletic Director and Boys Varsity Basketball Coach. “Will committed himself to our vision for the program and our goal of being a top competitor. He was three for three: a New England team championship, 1,000 career points, and the opportunity to play in college.”
While his athletic statistics are significant, Lewis is equally recognized for his leadership within the Bancroft community. As the head of the Multi-Cultural Student Union and a frequent participant in campus life, he was voted “Most Outgoing” by his senior class. Lewis credits the school’s environment for his growth as a leader.
“The teachers and coaches here are excellent, and they have pushed me to become a better student, player, and person,” Lewis said. “I believe that my teachers and coaches know me personally and want to help me be the best version of myself.”
Coach Adams noted that only about 3.7 percent of high school basketball players in the United States go on to play at the NCAA level. By joining the program at Regis College, Lewis enters an elite group of athletes.
“It has been my honor and privilege to be Will’s coach,” Adams added. “We are excited to see where this next chapter takes him. His friends, family, coaches, and teammates are all incredibly proud and we can’t wait to cheer him on at the next level.”
Lewis expressed gratitude to his family, teammates, and the school community who supported him throughout his four years at Bancroft.
