At Bancroft Lower School, we place great importance on amplifying student voice as a key element of the learning process. When students are encouraged to express their thoughts, ideas, and opinions, they become more engaged, confident, and active participants in their education. Allowing students to contribute to classroom discussions, make choices in their learning, and share their work empowers them to take ownership of their education and see the value of their perspectives.
One of the ways we foster student voice is through community events like Friday Share, where students present their work, ideas, and talents to their peers, teachers, and families. These opportunities build confidence and public speaking skills while reinforcing the importance of expressing oneself clearly and thoughtfully. Whether showcasing a project, performing music, or sharing a personal story, students are given a platform to be heard and celebrated.
By encouraging student voice, we help students develop a sense of agency and self-efficacy, fostering critical thinking and decision-making skills. This approach also builds a strong community, as students learn to listen, respect, and respond to the ideas of others. At Bancroft, student voice is integral to creating a dynamic, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
